Koinonia Arts Day 2022 Guidelines

Day of the competitions: October 1st, 2022

Registrations opened on: September 14th, 2022

Registrations closes on: September 24th, 2022 - No Walk-Ins are permitted

Time: Competitions will start at 9:00 AM PT

Venue: St. Thomas Syro Malabar Church [200 N. Abbott Ave, Milpitas, CA 95035]

General Rules:

  1. All participants have to be registered St. Thomas Syro Malabar Parish or St. Teresa Mission members.

  2. For competitions, an individual can participate in a maximum of 3 competitions only.

  3. There will have to be a minimum of 4 participants in each age category to conduct the competition.

  4. It's the responsibility of the participant to identify the respective room and report on time for the scheduled competition.

  5. Participants must report 15 minutes before the competitions start. Those that are not present when the competition starts will be disqualified.

  6. If you decide to withdraw your participation, please inform Ashwathi @ parishday@stthomassfo.org

  7. Once name has been listed and registration date is closed, no substitution is allowed.

  8. Decisions of the judges are final. Please approach the Koinonia team for any disputes. Please refrain from haggling the judges.

  9. Results will be announced on October 9th, 2022 and prizes distributed on October 15th during the Parish Day festivities at James Logan High School.

Malayalam Singing

  1. Songs have to be appropriate for a church and family environment. Inappropriate songs will be disqualified at the discretion of the Koinonia team. This includes vulgar lyrics, insinuations and other suggestive language.

  2. Karaoke and other musical accompaniments are not permitted.

  3. No props to be included.

  4. Limit song length to under 2 mins 30 secs.

English Singing

  1. Songs have to be appropriate for a church and family environment. Inappropriate songs will be disqualified at the discretion of the Koinonia team. This includes vulgar lyrics, insinuations and other suggestive language.

  4. Limit song length to under 2 mins 30 secs.

Drawing

  1. Drawing Sheet will be provided by the organizers.

  2. Participants have to bring their own art supplies including Pencil, eraser and other painting materials.

  3. Water colors and water are not allowed in the competition room.

  4. Only participants are allowed in the competition hall.

  5. Total duration is 45 mins.

  6. For the youngest batch, a print out of the art will be supplied.

  7. For all other age categories, a theme will be announced 15 mins prior to the competition.

Spelling Bee

  1. There will be a written elimination round for groups with more than 15 participants.

  2. Words will include verbs, adverbs, adjectives and nouns in the English language.

  3. Words will not be distributed in advance.

  4. Decision of the judges and core team is final and binding.

English Speech

  1. Topics will be announced on September 25th, 2022 (Updated on 9/25: see the below topics).

  2. Length of the speech: Min 3 mins; Max 5 mins.

Topics:

  1. Grades - 1-3: Books or Movies - Which one do I prefer?

  2. Grades - 4-6: Zoos are the only avenue for some people to see animals, but is that information worth caging the animals for?

  3. Grades - 7-9: Does a monthly allowance for children teach them financial literacy?

  4. Grades - 10-12: Does religion shape culture or vice versa, do cultures form religions?

Cell Phone Photography

  1. Theme will be announced on September 18th, 2022 (Updated on 9/18: see the below theme).

  2. Original photographs have to be taken via your own cell phone. No tablet photography.

  3. No digital alteration or filters to be used.

  4. A short caption gains additional points.

  5. Please submit photograph in jpg format and is under 5MB.

  6. The photograph has to be taken within two weeks prior to October 1st, 2022 and dated accordingly.

  7. Only 1 submission per entry.

  8. Submissions have to made to parishday@stthomassfo.org and no sign-up is needed.

  9. Final results of the judges will be binding.
