Serving The Needy
With encouragement and prayers from our Vicar, St. Thomas Syro Malabar Catholic Church of San Francisco, we put our faith into action through an outreach ministry called "Serving the Needy".
In Matthew 25:40 Jesus tells us "Whatever you did for the least of my brothers and sisters, you did for me". The mission of this outreach ministry is to bring our church community together in faith and to be of service to the homeless and the less fortunate.
Through this all volunteer ministry, our parish families partner with Holy Spirit Catholic Church Social Services group and serve food, and other needed items to our less fortunate brothers and sisters. On any given serving session, our volunteers cheerfully serve anywhere from 50-75 people in need. The youth and our children especially find this outreach very meaningful as they get to experience, first hand, the joy of serving and giving.
Since the inception of this outreach program in March 2011, numerous parish families have enthusiastically participated in this ministry, by volunteering as a family and teaching their children the values of service and generosity. This strongly supports our belief that generous acts like these when done together as a family, not only brings the core family together but our church community as well.
We have aligned this outreach ministry with our CCD education as well, whereby, on any given session, children along with their parents from a particular grade are encouraged to serve. This also provides an opportunity for our older children to serve and document hours towards their school's volunteer service requirements.
Additionally, the sharing of God's love through this outreach ministry has attracted other local non-profits to join our monthly "serving" by providing clothes for the homeless.
All signs indicate that this outreach ministry is well received by our parish community and with your prayers God's blessings, we hope to continue this ministry well into the future.
